The load-bearing empirical result. Two findings carry the weight, both stated in the paper's own abstract: a large-scale test of people born less than five minutes apart found no hint of the similarities astrology predicts, and a meta-analysis of more than forty controlled studies found astrologers performing no better than chance even on a task as coarse as predicting extraversion. Verified against the full text, whose own footer line reads "Journal of Consciousness Studies, 10, No. 6-7, 2003, pp. 175-198". Cite it alongside McRitchie's published commentary rather than instead of it; the exchange ran on, with a further reply from Dean and Kelly.
